The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo
Camera
"Armansky's star researcher was apale, anorexic young woman who hadhair as short as a fuse, a piercednose and eyebrows. She had a wasptattoo about an inch long on herneck, a tattooed loop around thebiceps of her left arm and anotheraround her left ankle. " pg 33
I love how she is so different from society's norm, yet possesses such an amazing gift. Rooney Marais my vision of Lisbeth Salander.
"Salander was dressed for the day in ablack T-shirt with a picture on it of E.T. withfangs, and the words, I am also analien. She had put on makeup in a colourscheme that indicated she might becolourblind. In other words, she wasexceptionally decked out," pg 40
I love how strange and unique heroutfits are. Self expression is beautifulto me.
"The she put on black jeans, heavy winterboots, a warm polo shirt, a dark pea jacket andmatching knitted gloves, cap and scarf. Shetook the rings out of her eyebrows and nostril, put on pale pink lipstick, and examined herself inthe bathroom mirror." pg 85
I love everything that Lisbethwears. I find her so cool andinteresting, I wish she was real.
"The inside was furnished with planks and consisted ofone room with big windows facing the water on eitherside of the front door. A staircase led to an opensleeping loft at the rear of the cabin that covered halfthe space," pg 231
The writing in this novel makesthe scenes so vivid, I can imaginethem perfectly. the cabin soundsbeautiful.
"Millennium's offices were arranged in an Lshape. the entry was a hall that took up a lot ofspace without being able to put much use. There were two sofas there, so it was a way ofbeing a reception area. " pg 267
Great description, sounds a littlecramped though.
"On the porch lay the half-charred corpse of acat. the cat's legs and head had been cut off, then the body had been flayed and the guts andstomach removed, flung next to the corpse, which seemed to have been roasted over a fire,"pg 315
I wish I couldn't picture that.
Reminds me of a section of Kit's Law.
"Pirate was skivvered to the floor with a pig knife, his blood in a thick pool around him and his eyesand mouth shocked open," pg 184
"Almost three feet of the very bottomshelf was taken up with photographyalbums," pg 340
Those pictures would be so cool to think about andto look at. So many memories held onto everysingle one.
"On the left were chains, metaleyelets in the ceiling and floor, atable with leather straps where hecould restrain his victims." pg 347
Probably one of the scariest things toever see in your life, if you made it outalive.
"Salander took three swift strides forward andswung a golf club she had hidden at her side. The iron flew in a wise arc and hit Martin on thecollarbone near his shoulder," pg 360
Lisbeth is my hero, even whenshe is a psycho fighter.
"he was always...rough and violent towards mewhen we were alone, but this time he crossed theline. He urinated on me. Then he started tellingme what he was going to do to me" pg 391
I really wish I didn't read that.
Sounds like what Shine did to Kit and Sid
"..he reached inside his pants, and pulled out his dick, as big andugly a thing as ever I'd seen, with purple veins snaking aorund itssides, and the smell of rotting dogberries dripping from it's head."pg 186
"After an hour she came out wearing black boots,a sand colored shirt and matching blouse, blacktights, a waist length jacket and a beret," pg 442
I bet she looks absolutely breathtaking.
Puzzle Piece
Blomkvist is going to jail because of"aggravated libel of industrialistHans-Erik Wennerstrom." pg 15
"The Agency for Industrial Assistance was a project that wasbacked up by the state and administered by representativesof about a dozen big Swedish firms. In theory, it was anassistance project that built on the principle of offering helpfor self help."Lindberg pg 19
"There were too many huge administrative problemsin what was left of Poland for a modern packagingindustry to function. In practice their factory wasshut out by the competition from a similar GermanProject."Lindberg pg 22
"The money served as aninterest-free loan."Lindberg pg23
Companies would pay back over time then Minos went underbut Wennerstrom could not be blamed. They needed to payback money lost so that he could then show he lost personalmoney.
"Your father is dead I know. Is your mother stillalive?"Henrik pg 67
"She died three years ago,"Blomkvist pg 67
Mikael's parents are both dead. Perhaps that is whyhe has trouble in relationships. Without somedirection and example some people get a little lost inlife.
"Now we come to the real reason I wantto hire you. I want you to find out who inthe family murdered Harriet, and who hasspent almost forty years trying to driveme insane."Henrik pg 75
Since the oil truck accidenthappened there was no way thatHarriet could escape the islandwithout anybody noticing. So thenwhere did she go? pg 78
"It was no secret that she and I had a specialrelationship and that I thought of her as my owndaughter." -Henrik pg 93
That's why he feels so tortured by Harriet'sdisappearance. Somebody keeps sending himflowers that she would have.
"...she was deemed to be emotionally disturbed and dangerously violent towards herclassmates and possibly towards herself." "In short, Lisbeth Salander was anythingbut easy to handle." pg 127
Henrik's brother Harald hates him because he"married a filthy Jewish whore." He is also isnoted as "insane". pg 147
Mikael notices that Harriet is looking atsomebody and she is frightened. This might bethe person that took her and killed her. pg 236
"Blomkvist supposed that the reason she had dared tostart an affair with him was precisely that he was onlythere for a while. She did not have to be afraid he wouldchange her life in any long term way"about CeciliaVanger" pg 245
"You've been in my computer, Froken Salander. You're afucking hacker." -Mikael pg 259
That is how Lisbeth gets all of herinformation, she is a professionalhacker.
The numbers that he had mistaken for belonging to atelephone turned out to actually be numbers to versesfrom the bible. pg 254
Apparently it means "Read the bible-it will providesufficient knowledge and vouches for the truefaith"pg 321
Lisbeth has a photographic memory, allowing herto read things very quickly and remember them pg334
It was not Cecilia in the window, it was Anita.Martin was the man in the picture that Harriet waslooking at. pg 341
This is no historical mystery,Martin is still killing people today.pg 353
Gottfried Vanger was the firstmurderer, and now Martin is taking hisplace. pg 354
Harriet is still alive, that is wherethe flowers came from. pg 385
Harriet killed Gottfried after he continually rapedand abused her. She kept him under and waited tilhe drowned. pg 391
Salander uses special technology to tap intoWennerstroms hard drive, allowing her to seeeverything he does. pg 414
Reminder
My first career choice was a journalist. It wasbecause of my talent in writing and thesuggestions from my teachers. However, when Ilooked more into it, I found that it was verychallenging to get it, and didn't receive as muchmoney as it should. pg 12
The sailing and the mention of the word " wharf"reminds me of the book Kit's Law which I hadjust read because they lived near the gully andhad to sail to Godfather's Cove after Sid'sescape. pg 18
The term "friendly banter" reminds me of thetime I went to the Scotland. They had differentwords with similar meanings to ours, and onethat I remember clearly was "banter", whichmeans talk. pg 19
Immediately makes me think of Scarface and AlPicino!
"He looked a little like the stereotypicallocal boss in an American gangstermovie," pg 28
"the Arab" makes me think of the antagonist in the movieUnthinkable with Samuel L Jackson. In the movie he is a fullblown American citizen that converts into a Muslim andterrorizes America.
"he was often referred to as the'Arab', although he did not have adrop of Arab blood." pg 28
Kit named her cat Pirate int he book, whichautomatically made me think of Johnny Depp'scharacter in Pirates of the Caribbean.
Mikael made friends with a catmysteriously, just Like Kit did.
I have a close friend that looks sickly thin likethat. She also doesn't have an eatingdisorder, it's just how she's built.
"Her extreme slenderness would have made a career inmodelling impossible, but with the right make up herface could have put her on any billboard in the world."pg 33
This passage reminds me of one of the Harry Potter booksbecause of one of the characters, Professor Snape. I rememberHarry talking about his nose always being red and turning to purplefrom his rage.
"..and that red bulb of his nosehad changed into a livid purple,"pg 32
I hated Pipi Longstocking as a child. Her show was very annoyingalong with her voice. Her stockings were mismatched and thatalways bothered me. pg 42
Somebody'd get a fat lip if they called me PipiLongstocking oin a newspaper placard." Lisbethpg 42
Lisbeth's mother is very much like Kit's mother, but in adifferent way. They both have mental disorders that causethem to act very differently than most normal characters, and it is interesting to see them communicate. pg 60
My favourite artist in music right now isfrom Stockholm. He goes by the stagename Avicii and Tim Berg.
"High banks of snow presented apicturesque contrast to Stockholm," pg63
This reminded me of the second season finale ofmy other favourite show Supernatural, because itwas titled All Hell Breaks Loose.
"Then all hell broke loose," pg 65
This reminds me of the Matrix because of theadvanced level of computer technology and thesecurity checks they always run.
"To be on the safe side, sheran the message through herPCP encryptionprogramme," pg 84
The sick obsession that Henrik has with findingHarriet reminds me of a similar situation inSupernatural. The mother mysteriously diesleaving the 2 boys and the father to find thekiller and get revenge.
"Mikael, for thirty-six years I've driven myselfcrazy wondering what happened to Harriet. I'vedevoted more and more of my time to it" Henrikpg 90
When Blomkvist mentions how eerily quiet it ison a Friday night in Hedeby, it reminds me ofhow similar Otterville is, it is like a ghost townevery night of the week. pg 114
This situation reminds me of a similar one in themovie Inception. The son of a famous businessman feels bad for himself as he doesn't think hisfather cares for him. He tries to make thebusiness flourish to win his love, but it turns outthat the father didn't want that.
"The image that was emerging revealed a family thatwas socially and financially successful, but in all themore ordinary aspects was quite clearly dysfunctional"pg 141
Isabella Vanger's description reminds me ofMorticia Adams from the famous Adam'sfamily. She seems dark, disturbed, and aperson of interest.
"She was thin, dressed in black Persianlamb coat with matching cap, and she wasleaning on a black cane...She looked like anaging vampire-still strikingly beautiful but asvenomous as a snake" pg 153
I've totally felt like this before on manyoccasions. If I could, I would have racked up amajor body count by now, I hate being that angryand upset over something.
"Salander's laptop fell victim toan accident that was so uncalledfor that she felt an urgent desireto kill someone." pg 172
I remember when I beat up a kid in grade six for bullyingme. After the fact he never bothered me again. It wasrather successful I think.
"In those days she did notknow what 'harassment' meant, but when she came to schoolthe next day, the boy hadthreatened revenge. So she haddecked him with a right jabforfeited with a golf ball-whichled to bloodshed and a newentry in her casebook." pg 182
In Tekken 6, Emilie my favourite character, uses a powerfulfight move called femme fatale. It takes a lot of damage out ofthe other player so I tend to use it often.
"I drive all the way up here to welcome you backto freedom and find you in bed with the townfemme fatale." Berger pg 227
There are many people that use cheap camerasto capture important memories, I just don'tunderstand why they don;t purchase a decentcamera. It reminds me of all the tourists when Iwent to Florida. pg 245
Her principles remind me of Kit's laws, and all of the thingsthat Sid said to Kit's mom to make her feel better aboutkilling Shine.
"In that case, it might amuse you to know that I alsohave principles comparable to your ethics committee's. Icall them Salander's Principle's. One of them is that abastard is always a bastard, and if I can hurt a bastardby digging up shit about him, then he deserves it." -Lisbeth pg 273
I constantly feel like this. It was likereading my own thoughts that applyto someone else. A strangeexperience.
"She was convinced that herskinny body was repulsive. Herbreasts were pathetic. She hadno hips to speak of. She didnot have much to offer." pg 314
My dad always says things like "stay cool"or "be cool". It sounds funny hearing thatfrom an older man I think.
"Stay cool, Christer."Mikael pg 421
Voice
"The AIA and Skanska Construction and the like. Not speculation firms, in other words." Lindbergpg 20
I know an electronica song called Skanska. I alwaysthought it was the compound word of "skank" and"gangster".
I feel almost swamped with all of the businessand finance discussion. trying to absorb andcomprehend all that is thrown at me so fast isbecoming a challenge! But I'll do my best tokeep up! (pg 22)
So, if I am getting all of this straight,Wennerstrom pulled out a loan so hecould start and eventually shut down asmall company to earn him moreprofit and justify his financial state.Sounds like a snake in the grass tome!
"Don't say business man.Call them what you like butcalling them businessmenis an insult to a seriousprofession." -Mikael pg 27
I like this quote, I agree with what he issaying exactly.
Providing security was a lucrative business." pg29
Isn't that ironic considering thesituation at hand?
"Sometimes she wore black lipstick, and inspite of the tattoos and the pierced nose andeyebrows she was...well...attractive. It wasinexplicable." pg 33
Lisbeth Salander is a badass and one of myidols. She is strong and doesn't care about herappearance as much as everyone else does. Agreat message.
"He had never lied about his feelings for her to his wife,Monica, but she had thought it would end when theymarried and their daughter was born." pg 52
I never understood how people could have affairs.Marriage is basically game over, you're stuck with yourspouse forever now, you made that choice by marryingthem.
"They are for the most part thieves, misers, bullies, and incompetents. I ran the companyfor thirty-five years-almost all the time in themidst of relentless bickering. they were myworst enemies, far worse than competingcompanies or the government."Henrik pg 70
I think that is very interesting. Not many peoplewould admit their hate towards their family likeHenrik did, I think this will make more sense furtherin the story.
"I can give you Hans-ErikWennerstrom. I can prove that he's aswindler." -Henrik pg 97
It will be interesting to see Blomkvist'sresponse now that Henrik has offered to sharethe secrets that he has against his worstenemy.
"The cat sniffed around the guest house for awhile. Mikael poured some milk into a dish, andhis guest lapped it up. Then the cat hopped onto the kitchen bench and curled up, and thereshe stayed." pg 117
It is nice to see that Blomkvist is making friendswith the local wildlife. Now he has somebody totake care of and look forward to coming hometo. i hope nothing happens to him.
"That had not been an easy journey. She ranaway from the first foster family after only twoweeks. the second and third foster families fell bythe wayside in quick succession." pg 128
It is hard to care to help yourself when thepeople around you don't. They only see it as ajob, not a passion.
I can't believe how big the Vanger family is. Thereare so many intricate relationships and distantrelatives. It is amazing how much they hate eachother, yet they are all in the business together.Perhaps that is the reason why they hateeachother?
Lisbeth Salander is a brilliant character in myopinion. I love her isolated attitude towards people, and how she filters the glances that she getsbecause of her appearance. Her way of dealing withpeople is such an enjoyment to read, because she issuch a smart woman. pg 173
"Salander spent several days combing theinternet. There were plenty to choose from." pg194
I find it amazing to know that the simplest plant can be transformedinto the deadliest poison. Also, how you can find so many detailedtutorials to do just about anything on the internet. Crazy world welive in.
I'm quite glad that Salander found out whatBjurman is. Most people never understand howanother person works. pg 202
Sadistic rapists tend to be sexually aroused by fantasies andurges of forcing themselves sexually on their victims. The sexualsadist is aroused by the use of gratuitous violence whereas thepreferential rapist is thought not to use greater force than isnecessary for victim compliance (Abel, 1989), though theoffender's estimate may be highly inaccurate. Preferentialrape-proneness may involve coercing the victim into fellating theperpetrator or to submit to anal intercourse, behaviours that aretypical of sexual sadism (Dietz et al., 1990). Preferential rapistsand sexual sadists often target strangers (Dietz et al., 1990).
"The message was written in caps over five lines thatcovered his belly, from his nipples to just above hisgenitals: I AM A SADISTIC PIG, A PERVERT, ANDA RAPIST." pg 209
I'm so happy that she put him in some sort ofplace to show him that she doesn't take his shit.Justice has been rightfully served in mu opinion, though she should have just cut his dick off. GoLisbeth!
"I would like for us to remain friends. but I can'tdeal with a relationship with you. I haven't everbeen good at relationships. I'd like it if you wouldleave me in peace for a while." Cecilia pg 234
I can't believe Cecilia is acting like this, at this point intime! She had ample amount to realize that she wasn'tfit for it, yet she never refused to have sex with Mikael.Women are crazy.
"The man she fell in love with was called PeterSamuelsson. A bright boy. Today he works forABB. the kind of man I would have been proud tohave as my son-in-law if she were my daughter.Harald measured his skull or checked his familytree or something and discovered that he was onquarter Jewish." -Henrik pg 248
That is absolutely ridiculous! How dare heaccuse Cecilia of being a whore just becauseof that! The man was only a quarter Jewish forGod's sake....people are insane.
"She had never brooded over whether she wasstraight, gay, or bisexual. She did not give adamn about labels, did not see that it wasanyone else's business whom she spent hernights with." pg 260
Love this quote! It is so true. Why doeseverybody need to be labelled? Is it apre-emptive thing to filter out people you don'twant to be associated with? We aren't soupcans.
"Nothing of importance washappening in the world." pg278
There seems to always be some sort of disasterhappening in the world. Its the government andmedia that hide it from the general public.
"I've found three other women who were murdered under suchsimilarly strange circumstances and they could have been onHarriet's list."Mikael pg 299
People are f****** sick. I don't understand (nor do Iwant to), what can go wrong in the mind to make youdo such insane things to other people.
"Salander was an information junkie witha delinquent child's take on morals andethics." pg 304
But that is what makes her so cool andcrazy.
Run Mikael! Don't go into his house, that's histerritory you'll be trapped! Lisbeth save him! pg 346
"I've never had a boy in here. I've never touched anotherman, as a matter of fact...except for my father. That was myduty."Martin pg 360
Going by this I'm guessing thatGottfried molested Martin and made tothink that it was normal, his duty.Gosh I hate people in this world.
I wish I could be as cool andcollected as Lisbeth is in suchintense situations. It is like shehas no emotions but she knowsthe truth about it all. pg 370
"So you're assuming that Martin had no will of hisown and that people become whatever they'vebeen brought up to be." -Salander pg 373
Salander is unintentionally revealing hiddensecrets about herself. I'm starting to feelvery bad for what might have happened, butI'm still very curious.
"No you can't ignore our age difference, It'sno sort of basis for a lasting relationship."-Mikael pg 401
I hate it when people say things like "age is just a number" andthat it has no impact on a relationship. It totally does, and that'swhy people get weirded out about it. There is a fine line betweenan older man and an old man.
"Henrik is an old shark. He wasselling product and told me what Iwanted to hear." -Mikael pg 408
How could Henrik do that to Mikael after all the SHIT he put himthrough? His life was in danger! This is appalling.
Though we all know it is a wrong thing to do, i feeleverybody goes on their first impression of aperson, rather than taking the time to get to knowthem. Poor Lisbeth. pg 435
"She wanted to hear him say that he liked her for who she was.that she was someone special in his world and in his life. Shewanted him to give her some gesture of love, not just friendship andcompanionship. I'm flipping out she thought." pg 464
I can relate to this almost exactly. it isboth blissful and terrifying. Love is amess.
"The pain was so immediate and so fierce that Lisbeth stopped in mid stride, incapable of movement. Part of her wanted to run after them. She wanted totake the metal sign and use the sharp edge to cleave Berger's head in two.She did nothing as thoughts swirled through her mind. Analyze theconsequences." pg 465
No words can explain how sad Iam right now. Oh Lisbeth, youpoor woman.
"He joined the Swedish National SocialistFreedom League, one of the first Nazi groupsin Sweden"Henrik pg 72
I want to know more about the Swedish NationalSocialist Freedom League and SwedishNazism.
A Berlin newspaper reported in the autumn that German Nazis look to Sweden forguidance. Swedish Nazis have established a leading role in White Power music, releasing 342 CDs last year. They also have a computerised intelligence networkcovering all their 'enemies', including address lists, details of relatives, car registrationnumbers, etc. In June, journalist Peter Karlsson and his eleven-year-old son escapednear death from a car bomb. They were saved by the fact that they had not closed thecar doors. The journalist was living undercover with a new identity after exposing Nazisin the army. He had also written articles on the White Power music industry whichresulted in CD producers in Italy, Taiwan and the US ending their contracts with theSwedish Nazis. The Nazi parties and networks are dangerous but relatively small -at most a couple of hundred organised members. They have attracted a couple ofthousand people around them, consisting mainly of young White Power musicfollowers. The fascist groups are constantly experiencing splits and crises. They areunable to establish a firm base because of the lack of support for their ideas and, justas importantly, the active resistance of anti-fascists, in which RättvisepartietSocialisterna (RS Socialist Justice Party, the Swedish section of the Committee for aWorkers' International) has played a key role.
I Wonder..

She knows that her word doesnot have the same weight asBjurman's, and she alwaysanalyzes the consequences of asituation before she acts.

It is the name of a group of friends that Lisbethused to hang with. They all had the same moralsand values, and dressed against the norm ofsociety.
"Her only chance of fighting back was if she could hurthim by scratching his eyes or using some sort of weapon. But her planned scenario had already gone to hell." pg199

What significance doesWalpurgis Night have?
April 30 is Salander's birthday. Like Halloween, Walpurgis has its roots in ancientpagan customs, superstitions and festivals. At this time of year, the Vikingsparticipated in a ritual that they hoped would hasten the arrival of Spring weatherand ensure fertility for their crops and livestock. They would light huge bonfires inhopes of scaring away evil spirits.
Why doesn't Lisbeth want her share of the moneythat they earned form Henrik? It is not like shedoesn't need and, and she worked very hard for it.pg 441
I wonder how these biblical verses connect toHarriet's disappearance? Why did she recordthem? What is Leviticus? pg 252
Character Development
Lisbeth Salander
"Her attitude encouraged neither trust norfriendship, and she quickly became an outsiderwandering the corridors of Milton like a straycat. She was generally considered a hopelesscase." pg 34
"On the other hand, there was noquestion of Advokat Bjurmangoing unpunished. Salandernever forgot an injustice, and bynature she was anything butforgiving." pg 182
Salander refuses to take any crap from her newappointed guardian. She clearly retaliates andhopefully he will never bother her again. pg 203
"It did no good to cry, she had learned that early on. She had also learnedthat every time she tried to make someone aware of something in her life, the situation just got worse. Consequently it was up to her to solve herproblems by herself, using whatever methods she deemed necessary." pg312
This reminds me of what Kit was like afterNan died, and she was responsible forJosie.
"You know Kittens, there's more to growing upthan crossing off years. Have you ever had fun,Kit? A best friend?" Doctor Hodgins pg 165
Salander is attempting to open herself up toMikael, but she is afraid of judgement. whathappened to her to make her feel this way Iwonder.. pg 335
Salander's mother dies, she feels remorseful butstays expressionless. As if she is always incontrol of herself. pg 393
"He seemed happy, and she toofelt strangely content with life." pg425
Due to Mikael's kindness and unique honest personality,Salander is able to enjoy his company and not dwell onanything for the first time in her life. It is like peace of mind.
This is like how Kit felt when she was with Sid.
"Strangely enough, I was feeling the same calm inside. It was as if I hadstepped into somebody else's shoes and were allowing them to walk my pathwith no inkling of touching, tasting or feeling. With Sid's leaving I could nolonger imagine a world where such things as love, desire or joy could exist."Kit pg 294
"Her problem was that she could not interpret her own feelings for him. Not since before reachingpuberty had she lowered her guard to let another person get so close as she had with him. To bequite honest, he had a trying ability to penetrate her defenses and to get her to talk about personalmatters and private feelings. Even though she had enough sense to ignore most of his questions, shetalked about herself in a way that she would never, even under the threat of death, have imagineddoing with any other person. It frightened her and made her feel naked and vulnerable to his will." pg461
I found this a very important development forLisbeth. She has never felt this way before, andshe is for once, unsure of what to do.
"What she had realized was that love was thatmoment when your heart was about to burst." pg461
"The pain was so immediate and so fierce that Lisbeth stopped in mid stride, incapable of movement. part of her wanted to rush after them. She wanted to takethe metal sign and use the sharp edge to cleave Berger's head in two. She didnothing as thoughts swirled through her mind. Analysis of consequences. Finallyshe calmed down." pg 465
Lisbeth refuses to let her unbearable feelings to get inthe way of Mikael's life, so she sits in her sorrow tryingto build herself back to normal. How sad for her towatch.
Mikael Blomkvist
This is the first criminal charge against Blomkvist so he is taking itrather hard. Especially since it involves his magazine company, and his reputation of a successful journalist. pg 16
"No, I don't believe in God, but I respect the factthat you do. Everyone has something to believe in"pg 251
Blomkvist was burnt out and ran away from his work afterhe got in legal trouble with Wennerstrom. But he isgetting on his feet now and making a huge comeback. pg268
Mikael is compassionate with Cecilia, and caresfor her, but he has his priorities straight when itcomes to his work. pg 278
Even after he has been tortured to an inch of hislife he still is able to keep his cool and makejokes about the whole thing. pg 348
"I was helpless. For several hours I wasconvinced that I was going to die. i felt the fear ofdeath and there wasn't a thing I could do" pg 371
Erika Berger
Even though Berger is independent, confident, and can be rather aggressive, she still silentlythank Salander for saving Mikael. There is nolonger harsh judgement towards Salander. pg437
Martin Vanger
"You are an ordinary little person Mikael. Youwould not be able to understand the godlikefeeling of having absolute control over someone'slife and death." Martin pg 354
After learning from his father, Martin becomesa secret serial killer who thrills the hunt andpower more than the death of the women. pg367
Harriet Vanger
"No more lies. I accept that it's all over. in somesense, I've been waiting for this day since 1966.For years I was terrified that someone mightcome up to me and say my name. But you knowwhat? All of a sudden I don't care anymore. Mycrime falls outside the statute of limitations. And Idon't give a shit what people think about me." -Harriet pg 389
Henrik Vanger
Henrik Vanger may be passionate about hisbusiness and be cold toward his famil, but thismystery of Harriet has really hit a soft spot due tohis guilt, and he has since devoted his life tofinding her. pg 90
Cecilia Vanger
"The day you left for prison I was absolutelymiserable. You were gone, as though you hadnever existed. It was dark here int he guesthouse. it was cold and empty in my bed. Andthere I was, an old maid of fifty six again." pg 225
Dragan Armansky
"Her absence had felt like torture-almost a form ofpunishment. he had nobody to discuss hisfeelings with, and for the first time he realizedwith appalling clarity what a destructive hold shehad over him." pg 37
Armansky feels a deep connection withLisbeth, but she does not reciprocate thefeelings.
Armansky is jealous of Blomkvist as he so easilygains Lisbeth's trust, as he has been trying to getclose to her ever since they met. pg 267
Isabella Vanger
"Isabella, would you believe, came rushing intoHenrik's room. She'd obviously seen that you'dcome back and was completely beside herself. She screamed at him there had to be an end tothis outrageous fuss about her Harriet, addingthat you were the one who drove her son to deathwith your snooping," Frode pg 397
Isabella changes almost entirely when she findsout that her son is dead and her daughter that shethought was dead is alive.
