INTEGRATED MANAGEMENT OF CHILDHOOD ILNESS (IMCI)
GENERAL DANGER SIGNS
MAIN SYMPTOMS
4 MONTHS AND 2 WEEKS
YOUNG INFANT
OLDER CHILDREN
COUGH
DIARRHEA
FEVER
EAR INFECTION
CONVULSION
UNABLE TO DRINK OR BREASTFEED
VOMITING
ABNORMAL SLEEP
ASK: If the child has cough or difficulty of breathing? How many days?
INITIAL OR FOLLOW UP VISIT
LOOK: for fast breathing or chest indrawing LISTEN: Stridor or Wheezing
No Pneumonia (Cough or Cold) - Soothe the throat and relieve the cough with safe remedy.
ASK: if the child has diarrhea Is there blood in the stool? How many days? Look: for signs of dehydration (R,A,S,T,P)
No dehydration - Follow up for 5 days if not imporving
ASK: does the child has fever? For how long? Has the child had measles within the last three months?
Look: for stiff neck, runny nose, signs of measles; rash and red eyes.
Measles - Give vitamin A (if 6 months and above)
Ask: If the child has ear problem, If the child has ear pain, and ear discharge. Look: for PUS DRAINING from the ear and feel tender swellling.
No ear infection - No additional treatment but Health teaching plan on proper way to clean the ear for older children and above.
