Edible Parts of Plants

Plant stems play several roles. Buds, leaves, flowers, and fruits grow on stems, which support the entire plant. Stems serve as a key link between the leaves and the roots. They transport water and mineral nutrients from the roots upward through xylem tissue, and organic molecules and some mineral nutrients through phloem tissue in any direction.
