Shearing
The fleece of sheep is removed from the body.
Scouring
The sheared fleece is cleaned by washing with
detergent in hot water in large tanks.
Sorting
The process of separating hair of different texture
from the fleece.
Dyeing
The raw fibres are dyed in different colours.
Spinning
The raw fibres and dyed fibres are then twisted
to make threads called yarn.
Obtaining silk from silkmoth.
Extracting raw silk starts by cultivating the silkworms on
mulberry leaves. Once the worms start pupating in their
cocoons, these are dissolved in boiling water in order for
individual long fibres to be extracted and fed into the
spinning reel.
. Reeling .
The cocoons are collected and are exposed to steam. The
silk fibres then separate out from cocoons.
. Dyieng .
. The silk fibres are then dyed in different colours .
Spinning and Weaving
The silk fibres are then spun into threads which
are woven into silk cloth.
