OKR: Objectives and Key Results
objectives and key results method
The essence of OKR
A strategic target and task system
A set of management tools and methods to clarify goals and track their completion
Invented by Intel Corporation
OKR composition
A clear goal that requires extreme focus
Quantify several key results for this goal
2. How to set a good OKR
Good OKRs
Target
If you find that you are passionate about doing something as soon as you get up, it means you have set a good goal.
A good OKR goal must be measurable, challenging but not disappointing.
They are about 50% confident that it will be done
key results
If you are a little worried when you see a key result, then the key result is set appropriately
How to set OKRs
Before setting OKRs, first clarify your or your company’s mission
First set the company level OKR, then department OKR, and personal OKR
Set a goal that must be challenging
If you don’t have a multi-day product line, it’s best not to have more than one goal.
Collect bottom-up information on what employees think the company should focus on right now.
Convene a meeting with senior executives to put their proposed alternative goals together with those of employees. The meeting will go over them collectively and finally vote on the goals.
After setting the goal, set 3-4 key results for the goal that can measure whether the goal is achieved.
After setting the key results, set an initial confidence index for each key result
That is, what is your estimated probability of completing this key result? The initial value is generally recommended to be 50%.
Track this number in future OKR runs
3 principles for setting OKRs
Goals should be clear and inspiring
Goals must have a time limit, and having a definite deadline is more conducive to goal achievement.
The goals are achieved by an independent team, that is, the main body of execution must be clear
3. How to run your OKRs
Psychological construction before execution
Master the rhythm of "taking responsibility and celebrating results"
Every Monday, the team meets to take stock of OKRs to clarify what tasks they are responsible for completing this week.
Every Friday, hold a “victory meeting” where each team can present and celebrate the results of the week’s work
5 factors that may lead to failure to achieve goals
Setting multiple goals without prioritizing them
Lack of adequate communication, resulting in other team members not accurately understanding the goals
There is no specific plan to implement the goals, just empty talk about the goals
Instead of spending time on important things, you do a lot of things that deviate from your goals.
give up easily
