Entropy (Pinyin: shāng, Greek: εντροπία (entropía), English: entropy) generally refers to a measure of the state of certain material systems, and the degree to which certain material system states may occur. It is also used by social sciences as a metaphor for the degree of certain states of human society. The concept of entropy was proposed by German physicist Clausius in 1865. It was originally one of the state parameters of matter used to describe "energy degradation" and has been widely used in thermodynamics.
