Door
Security Doors & Smart Locks
The key to preventing theft is not the door, but the lock
At present, C-class locks have the highest security level. Everyone must buy anti-theft doors with C-class lock cylinders. If the door lock at home is not Class C, it is recommended to upgrade it to Class C. Regular C-level lock cylinders have safety certification from the Public Security Bureau.
Are smart locks really safe?
Advantage
The electronic lock is essentially a mechanical lock, but it has a built-in motor and a panel. The motor can be controlled to unlock using fingerprints, passwords, card swipes, etc. You can also combine these methods into one, and use whichever method you want to open the lock. If not, you can also use the key.
Living fingerprint recognition uses a semiconductor capacitive fingerprint head. Only living fingerprints can be identified and unlocked. There is no possibility of fingerprints being copied to unlock. Most smart locks now use live fingerprint recognition technology.
If you are worried about your password being spied on, you can choose an electronic smart lock that supports "virtual password". If the password has 6 digits, then you can enter 10 to 20 digits when entering, as long as it contains the 6-digit real password. It is best to press each number once.
Some smart locks also have network monitoring functions. You can monitor the lock status on the APP at any time. Once someone opens the door, you will receive a prompt message.
Security risks
For example, in order to prevent the electronic system from failing and unable to open the door, many smart locks will have a spare mechanical keyhole, which is convenient for both opening the door and troubleshooting.
Some smart locks use Class A lock cylinders with very low security for cost reasons. So in the eyes of thieves, this lock is simply trivial. Therefore, the smart lock cylinder must also be C-level.
For the sake of safety, some brands will seal the spare keyhole. When the smart lock fails, call the merchant and they will send someone to unlock the lock and solve the problem.
About which one is safer, "real ferrule" or "fake ferrule"?
The lock core of the "real mortise" passes through the lock body, and the two are an integral part; while the lock core of the "fake mortise" is outside the lock body, and the two are separate.
The difference between "real and fake ferrules" is only technical, and there is not much difference in safety. To ensure safety, it is best to choose a smart lock with an anti-pry alarm function. Once the panel is damaged, an alarm will sound, and the lock cylinder must be C-level.
In addition, regarding the remote unlocking of smart locks, there is also the risk of being cracked by hackers. If you need to open the door for relatives, friends or cleaning staff, it is better to choose the "temporary password" method, which can only be used once and will become invalid after use, which is relatively safer.
It is best to choose a smart lock with an external charging interface. In an emergency, you can use the power bank to "extend your life" to unlock the lock.
Selection of smart locks
Regarding the purchase of smart locks, it is mainly based on your own needs. You can choose a single function such as fingerprint, password or IC card, or you can choose a multi-function integrated one to make opening the door more convenient.
The more functions, the more expensive the price. A good smart lock is more expensive than a security door. However, the more functions there are, the easier it is for vulnerabilities to appear, especially when connecting to the Internet through mobile APPs, there is a risk of being cracked. And just choosing the functions you need can not only save money, but also reduce risks to a certain extent.
In order to prevent violent opening, most security doors will be equipped with heaven and earth locks. However, some smart locks do not have sky and earth lock hooks and cannot control the opening of the sky and earth locks. The sky and earth locks need to be removed during installation, which will reduce the security level of the anti-theft door.
Besides locks, what else should you pay attention to?
①Steel plate and filler
Most security doors are made of steel and are composed of two layers of steel plates, a steel frame and internal fillers.
The thickness of the steel plate is most important. It is best to choose a Class A anti-theft door with the highest security level. The thickness of the outer and inner panels of the door leaf is not less than 1mm, and the thickness of the door frame is not less than 2mm. It has good anti-saw and anti-impact capabilities.
Door fillers generally include honeycomb paper, fireproof rock wool, polyurethane foam, aviation aluminum foil and other materials. Among them, aviation aluminum foil is the best filler, with good fire prevention, sound insulation, and heat preservation effects, while honeycomb paper is the second worst.
②Cat eye
With everyone paying more attention to locks, many thieves now start with the peephole instead of the lock. First use a "reverse peephole" to see the indoor situation clearly, then remove the peephole directly from the outside, extend the tool into the house, and directly poke the door handle to open the door.
Regarding the protection method for this kind of behavior, if it is a mechanical lock, you must use the key to lock the door when you go out. The latch will not lock until the door is locked, and no matter how hard you twist the door handle, it will not open.
If it is an automatic lock, don't install a cat's eye, because the latch of the automatic lock automatically locks with the door and does not require a key to lock it. Twist the handle inside and it's fully open. No matter how high the level of the lock is, as long as it cannot be locked from the inside, it only takes a few minutes to remove the peephole, insert the tool, and open the door.
If you are not short of money, you can choose a smart electronic peephole. This kind of peephole fundamentally prevents the possibility of peeping from outside the door, and is difficult to pry open. The most important thing is that it can also take photos and videos, which can be used as evidence when necessary, making it more secure. high.
Renovation of rustic security doors
If the door is replaced, it is usually installed after the water and electricity are completed and before the tiles are laid in the living room. One thing to note: after the installation is completed, there will be gaps around the door frame. Generally, manufacturers will use foam glue to caulk the gaps. If the gap is too large, the decoration company will need to fill it with cement mortar.
In addition to replacing doors, there are many ways to save money on renovations
①Spray paint or brush paint
The best effect is metallic paint, which lasts longer. Dark paint works better, while white paint tends to "reveal".
Chalkboard paint is a great choice, and you can also write down some important things on it.
DIY
If you do it yourself, prepare brushes and paint in advance, and make protective preparations: hats, masks, gloves, and overalls.
It is best to sand the surface first, which can not only remove the background color to prevent it from affecting the paint effect, but also enhance the paint adhesion.
When painting, apply a small amount of paint several times. Apply a thin coat of paint first, and then apply a second coat every 3 to 5 minutes. The effect will be better than painting it all at once. Be sure to apply paint evenly. In order to avoid brushing on the lock, be sure to protect the lock with masking paper before brushing.
②Attach felt
It is a relatively popular internet celebrity method. It looks good and can be used as a photo wall. If you don’t like it, you can tear it off and change it to another color. The key is that the price is cheap. It usually only costs more than 100 yuan. It can be said to be perfect.
Felt can be purchased in physical stores or Taobao. Before buying, you should measure the size of your door. The more accurate the better. When purchasing, remember to bring adhesive so that it can be easily attached to the door.
Because the door lock will leak out, you need to measure the door lock distance. You can ask the seller to use a laser to make a hole, or you can buy it and use a hob to make the hole yourself.
③Stickers
The principle is similar to felting, the price is cheaper, but the operation is more difficult. Anyone who has ever applied stickers will know that it is easy to blister when applied to a large area. It is really difficult to apply stickers seamlessly.
It is not recommended to torture yourself. Of course, if you have practiced applying film on an overpass, that’s a different story.
wooden door
1. Decoration design of wooden doors
1. Applicable space
High-quality wooden doors are strong and beautiful, and can even be used as entry doors. When used indoors, they are soundproof, lightweight, and naturally rich in texture. (The reason why metal is less used in interior doors is that metal doors that are too thin have poor sound insulation, and metal doors that are too thick are heavy and difficult to open and close.)
Try not to use wooden doors in kitchens and bathrooms, especially bathrooms with no dry and wet separation, no windows, and large amounts of moisture. Because wooden doors are usually used for many years, the paint layer may be bumped, and moisture entering the wood will cause the wood to decay. If you must use a wooden door, do a good job in standard construction and try not to bump it in later use.
2. Style matching
The style of wooden doors should be consistent with the overall style. Style and aesthetics are a bit metaphysical, and there are thousands of people with different faces. But generally speaking, the color and style of the door will echo the floor and walls.
①Match with the floor
The effect of light-colored wooden doors paired with light-colored floors is fresh and elegant↓
The effect of dark wooden doors paired with light-colored floors is to highlight the door and emphasize individuality↓
The effect of light-colored wooden doors and dark floors is to create a clean and clear space↓
The effect of dark wooden doors and dark floors is calm and atmospheric↓
②Match with baseboards
There are two choices for the style of the skirting line, either following the floor or following the door. If it follows the door, the skirting line and the door cover have the same or similar shape, and the integrity of the space is better.
③Match with the wall
Between line decorations such as door frames and skirting lines and large flat surfaces such as walls, if a strong contrasting color is used, the aesthetics of the lines of the door frames and baseboards will be highlighted; conversely, if similar colors are used, the door frame can be weakened. The existence of sleeves and skirting lines.
2. What to look for when buying wooden doors
1. Core material
According to the different core materials, wooden doors are roughly divided into three types: solid wood doors, solid wood composite doors, and molded doors. The difference in core material largely determines the quality of the door.
①Solid wood door
Solid wood doors are also called original wood doors. They are the highest-end products among wooden doors. They are the same on the outside and inside. They are made of several pieces of original wood boards spliced together to form a door core (a whole board is rare). The frame, door cover and other components are also all solid wood without any filling. material. The main varieties of solid wood doors include walnut, ash, etc.
The surface texture of the solid wood door is clear and natural, the knocking sound is thick, and there is no noise in any part.
②Solid wood composite door
Solid wood composite doors use solid wood as the keel frame, fill the middle with solid wood long strips, short strips, finger joints or glue joints, and then stick veneer or paper on both sides, and use solid wood to make the frame and door frame.
There are expansion joints inside the door core, which effectively solves the problem of cracking caused by uneven stress, so the performance is more stable than pure solid wood doors. Some solid wood composite doors are more than 2200mm tall, and steel pipes are installed inside to increase strength and prevent deformation.
For high-quality solid wood composite doors, the internal short wooden strips are finger-jointed. The wooden strips, keel frame, frame and door frame are all of the same wood (such as fir, pine), and the surface is covered with higher-grade solid wood veneer (such as rosewood). , after pressure gluing and surface treatment, the overall effect is almost the same as that of solid wood doors.
Although the grade of solid wood composite doors is lower than that of solid wood doors, they are affordable and have superior performance. They are currently the mainstream products on the market.
Although solid wood composite doors are the most cost-effective, there is a lot of room for maneuver, such as reducing the number of wood strips in the door core; the wood strips, let alone fir and pine, can be stuffed with honeycomb paper; the paper surface can also be said to be The wood veneer; and the wood of the frame and door cover are inconsistent... Therefore, the price of solid wood composite doors varies greatly, and the quality needs to be carefully distinguished.
③Molded door
Molded doors are the lowest type of wooden doors. The core material is density board, which is a board made of scrap wood or other plant fibers ground into powder and then hot-pressed with glue.
Molded doors are low in cost, have poor stress resistance, and are prone to swelling when exposed to moisture. Compared with solid wood doors and solid wood composite doors, the most intuitive difference is that molded doors are light and fluttery. Molded doors can be used as wardrobe or cabinet doors. They can be used as room doors. If used frequently, their lifespan may only be three to five years.
2. Surface treatment
There are several treatment methods for the surface of wooden doors: open paint, closed paint, baking paint, spray painting, and paint-free. Among them, open paint and closed paint are divided according to the degree of sealing, and baking paint and spray painting are divided according to the painting method.
①Open paint
The open paint does not block the tube holes of the wood and retains the three-dimensional structure of the wood surface. The surface of the door has an original wood feel to the touch. Since the wood tube holes are not sealed, open paint is easier to get dirty and difficult to maintain.
②Sealing paint
Sealing paint completely seals the wood tube holes. The paint film is relatively thick and the surface feels flat and smooth, making it easy to clean and take care of. The price of sealed paint is often lower than that of open paint, making it more cost-effective.
③Baking paint
Baking paint requires multiple layers of primer and topcoat, and the paint layers need to be continuously polished. Finally, they are baked and shaped at high temperatures in a dust-free room. Due to the complicated process, the price is very high. High-end baking paint seems to have a metallic luster.
④Spray painting
Spray painting is to apply putty on the board, spray paint on top of the putty, and then let it dry naturally. Compared with the paint film of baking paint, the paint film produced by spray paint is not vivid enough, not thick enough, and prone to quality problems, but it is cheaper.
⑤No paint required
The usual method is PVC lamination, which is to fix a layer of PVC plastic film on the surface of the board through high temperature and high pressure conditions.
The difference between baking paint, spray painting and paint-free is that baking paint and spray paint can only show the texture and color of the wood itself, but paint-free can imitate the patterns and colors of various other woods by milling grooves first and then laminating the film.
To sum up, the current mainstream wooden door surface treatments are baking paint and paint-free. Spray painting is less used because it seems to be of low grade.
3. Accessories
The accessories of wooden doors mainly include door covers, locks, hinges, door catches, and sealing strips.
①Door cover
The door frame is an extension of the door frame. Some door frames do not require a door, but are installed independently on the wall door opening, called a "pass", which plays a role in beautifying and protecting the wall.
Remember to ask whether the material of the door cover is consistent with the door to prevent the merchant from passing off inferior products.
②Locks
Just choose commonly used mechanical locks as locks. Electronic locks are too expensive and unnecessary. You can consider silent locks for bedrooms.
③Hinges
Hinge is a wearing part, so the quality of the hinge is very important. Do not be greedy for cheap. If possible, choose imported products. High-quality door hinges are made of stainless steel, with a thickness of 3mm, exquisite surface processing, no cutting edges, and flexible rotation.
④Door stopper
The door catch is installed behind the door and is used to fix the door, which can reduce the collision between the door and the wall. There are two methods of installation: wall mounting and floor mounting. Generally, if the wall allows, wall mounting will be used, which is more durable and less stumbling.
⑤Sealing strip
Installed between the door frame and door leaf to reduce noise and improve the sealing of wooden doors. The sealing strips of inferior wooden doors are directly pasted on, which may age and fall off over time. High-quality sealing strips are made by opening slots in the door cover and inserting the sealing strips into them, making them stronger and more durable.
3. What should you pay attention to when buying wooden doors?
Try not to shop online when buying wooden doors, because most wooden doors are customized and the size is very important. Even in local physical stores, if there is poor communication between multiple parties, defects may occur.
When purchasing offline, try to move closer to big brands. When buying, carefully knock on all parts of the door panel. The fewer places where cavity sounds occur, the better; when lifting a door with your hands, under normal circumstances, it is difficult for an ordinary young man to lift a high-quality solid wood composite door. Lift over your knees.
In addition, you should also pay attention to whether the door frame and door are made of the same material, whether the sealing strip is installed in place, whether it contains hardware, and what the quality of the hardware is.
When paying a deposit to sign a contract, pay attention to whether the contract says "This fee is the total price of all links from accurate measurement to installation." Whether there are non-standard fees or additional fees, beware of merchants making mistakes in measurement, installation, and gluing. hands and feet.
Regarding price, the price of solid wood doors is usually more than 3,500 yuan; the price of solid wood composite doors is between 800 and 3,000 yuan; and the price of molded doors only costs a few hundred yuan. Depending on the craftsmanship, the price of wooden doors varies greatly and needs to be carefully screened.
4. Installation of wooden doors
1. Preparation before installation
The manufacturer will usually come to the door twice for measurement. The first time is to determine the location and approximate size of the door opening, and negotiate to determine the subsequent treatment method of the door opening and floor.
The second time is also called a compound ruler. It is usually after the floor height can be determined and the kitchen and bathroom wall tiles have been pasted. At this time, the measured size is more accurate, and the manufacturer will start production according to this size.
Measure twice
Generally, after the hard decoration is completed, the main materials such as wooden doors begin to be installed. Putting large pieces of furniture first and then installing doors can reduce the collision between the two. If the construction schedule is not available, you can also control it flexibly. Just pay more attention during installation.
If your wooden doors are all of the same brand and style, remember to number each wooden door and accessories. Since wooden doors are generally customized, for example, the width of the master bedroom door is 870mm and the second bedroom door is 850mm. Although the difference is not big, it will cause problems if it is installed wrongly. Seriously affect the use of wooden doors.
2. Installation steps
①Install the door frame
First assemble the door frame on the ground, and then use wooden strips, wooden wedges and other tools to fix the door frame inside the door opening, making sure it is horizontal and vertical.
Note that the door covers of the bathroom and kitchen must be about 2mm away from the ground and sealed with glass glue. If the door covers are in direct contact with the ground and not sealed, the water in the bathroom and kitchen will slowly corrode the door covers.
② Beat foam
Drive styrofoam between the wall and door frame to further secure the door frame. Before applying glue, clean up the debris and loose parts between the wall and the door frame. The presence of these impurities will affect the effect of the foam glue.
When injecting foam glue, you should first apply glue to the upper, middle and lower points of the door frame. After these glues are dry, glue should be applied in other gaps. The foam glue filling rate must be above 85% to be considered qualified.
If you try to save time and finish gluing in one go, it is likely that the gluing will be uneven or not enough, resulting in uneven stress on the door cover, resulting in problems such as the door not being vertical and the adhesive strength of the foam glue decreasing. Then wait until the foam glue is completely dry before performing other operations.
③Installation accessories
The last step is to install the hardware, connect the door leaves, paste the door cover lines, and complete the beautification process.
Wooden doors generally require three hinges. There are several installation methods for hinges: double-tick hinge, single-tick hinge, and double-tick hinge.
The double-joint hinge directly drills holes in the door leaf and door frame, and screws the hinge directly on with screws. Although it is simple and trouble-free, it is not strong and has greater hidden dangers in the future. The single-tick hinge only makes slots in the door frame or door leaf; Double tick means that both the door frame and the door leaf are slotted. Double ticking is the strongest and most troublesome. If there is no requirement, the workers will probably not do it so meticulously.
Sliding doors
places that can be used
semi-open kitchen
balcony
other
In addition to being used in kitchens and balconies, sliding doors can also be used in other places instead of flat doors.
For example, you can install a sliding door in the bathroom, but a friendly reminder, sliding doors are not very good in terms of sound insulation and smell, so choose carefully~
Sliding doors can also be used in cloakrooms and wardrobes, which are convenient and beautiful~
What you need to pay attention to when purchasing
Material
Most of the popular sliding doors seen in beautiful pictures use glass as the "core" of the sliding door. For the sake of simplicity, the glass used in some sliding doors may be very large. At this time, the frame that carries the weight of the glass becomes very important.
At present, most of the two materials used on the market are aluminum alloy and aluminum-magnesium alloy as the frame of sliding doors.
Aluminum alloy is relatively cheap, but its strength is not high and it is easy to deform.
Aluminum-magnesium alloys are stronger, more resistant to oxidation and corrosion, and more expensive.
Glass
It is not recommended to use ordinary glass because if the glass breaks, the sharp fragments produced by the break can easily cause injury.
It is recommended to use tempered glass. Even if the tempered glass is damaged by force, it will generally not break directly, but will become honeycomb-shaped cracks, which will cause less harm to people. The identification method of tempered glass is also very simple. It has the CCC mark of national compulsory certification. You can see it if you look carefully~
Issues to note during installation
door cover
One of the reasons why narrow-sided black frame sliding doors are popular is their simple aesthetic. The reason is that, in addition to being more meticulous, they rarely use the door frames that traditional sliding doors like to use. There is no doubt that thick door frames will feel bloated to a certain extent.
There is a price to pay for beauty. The consequence of not installing a door cover is that if you are not careful, your sliding door will be "crooked". In serious cases, the door cannot be closed tightly.
The most important thing is that there were communication problems during the installation process.
For the owners: When determining the sliding door they want, they have actually entered the middle and late stages of hard decoration. They don’t know that sliding doors without door covers have much higher requirements for the flatness of the door opening.
For workers: Each worker is only responsible for his own construction, and the door opening of the sliding door needs to be installed according to the traditional installation method. At this time, the bricklayer does not need to do too much on the door opening of the sliding door. processing, because even if it is rough and there is a door cover, it will not affect the installation and effect of the sliding door.
For the sliding door installer, if the door opening is not properly handled, it is very difficult to install a sliding door without a door cover, and the smoothing and straightening of the door opening is not within the scope of his responsibility.
The consequence is that the door opening of the sliding door is not properly handled, and the flatness and verticality are not good enough, which affects the installation of the sliding door without a door cover and is prone to problems such as loose closing and "crooked" doors.
To put it bluntly, it is still a communication issue. If the owner has decided on the sliding door style he wants from the beginning, he can give the relevant drawings to the foreman in advance, and then ask the foreman to instruct the workers to handle the door opening so that there is no door cover. If the installation level is high, this problem will not occur.
If the door opening is already like this, in addition to asking the workers to rework the door opening (they may not be willing to do it for you if you pay more), you can also try adding wooden boards/gypsum boards around the door opening, so that it is smooth enough, and then paint, Wallpaper can also be covered (actually it is a bit like a door cover, but it is hidden), and if the inner door is enlarged with core board gypsum board, it will be easy to crack after painting, so wallpapering will be much better ).
track
Tracks can be divided into ground rails and suspended rails. We will not go into details on this. We will mainly introduce some issues related to ground rails.
There are two types of installation of floor rails, one is pre-embedded and the other is installed directly on the floor. In fact, with the current level of technology, the lower rail can already be made very thin.
But some people still think that a raised track on the ground is in the way and may trip people, so they choose to bury the track in advance.
If you think so too, you need to pay attention. If you choose to embed the track, you need to embed the track during the tiling stage. At this time, you need to communicate with the foreman in advance and then determine how to leave the track opening or embed the track in advance. In order to avoid not being able to achieve the effect you want in the end and leaving regrets.
invisible door
Do you really need invisible doors?
If there is a door opening on the TV wall, it will make the TV wall look very short and unsightly, and it will be too troublesome to change the layout of the room. You can consider replacing the door on the TV wall with an invisible door.
Friends who like to study Feng Shui will probably be very concerned about bathroom doors. At this time, you can also use invisible doors.
Why are we invisible?
If you want to hide the door, you need to make some modifications to the door and background wall. Commonly used modification methods include: wallpaper, wall painting, decorative panels, furniture, etc.
Using wall paint, wallpaper, wall painting, etc. to make invisible doors, the gap can actually be seen, but the gap is relatively small.
If this method is adopted, the door needs to be constructed together with the wall. The door needs to be completed in advance, and then when the oil workers come in, the wall and door will be decorated (paint, wallpaper, etc.) together.
Don’t just install the door after the oilman is done, as in the normal renovation process. Moreover, the construction period of custom-made invisible doors is generally not short, so you must coordinate the time well.
But the above method is not 100% invisible. A discerning person can actually see it at a glance...after all, it is such a big gap.
You can use another more complicated method to make the entire wall a decorative panel.
But I personally think it's a bit ugly
In addition, the wall can also be covered with furniture, such as bookshelves, storage cabinets, etc., and the invisible door is hidden among these furniture. However, this method is very difficult... and the cost is higher, so consider it carefully ~
Accessories should also be invisible~
A door, in addition to the door panel, also has handles, locks and other accessories. How to hide the handle? This is simple. The handle on the outside of the door is uneasy. Just push it open. You can install a handle on the inside side. It can't be seen from the outside anyway...
Under normal circumstances, doors need to have a lock. Although invisible doors are "invisible", they can actually be equipped with door locks. However, the door lock installed on it is different from ordinary door locks and cannot be seen from the outside, which is the so-called invisible door lock.
Hardware accessories are the most important
Hinge is also the most important issue to pay attention to when making an invisible door. If the hardware is not good, an invisible door that is opened frequently will have a very short life. If it breaks, it will be very troublesome to redo it.
If you want to achieve the effect of automatic closing, you can use something called a door closer, but this kind of door closer is rarely used on invisible doors~
At present, the most commonly used hinges are hydraulic spring hinges with buffers. Recommended hardware hinge brands include KD, Häfele, GMT, DORMA, GEZE, Stanley, Panasonic, Ingersoll Rand, etc. You can refer to them below.
Disadvantages of invisible doors
1. Invisible doors are easy to deform, especially wooden doors using door closers. Due to uneven stress, they are easily deformed. Once the door is deformed, it will become difficult to open.
2. It is difficult to find someone who can reliably make invisible doors. In fact, there are many people who want to try invisible doors, but it is rare to find a reliable invisible door manufacturer. Everyone is asking: Where can I customize invisible doors? If you really can’t find it, you can try a custom furniture manufacturer or carpenter. Of course, the price is not cheap either.
3. The invisible door has no handle, so you basically have to push it when opening the door. When pushing the door, your hands will often come into contact with the invisible door, and they will basically push to the same place (the previous position of the handle), so this position can easily get dirty.
barn door
Barn door, the English name is "Barn Door", is a sliding door with slide rails and pulleys exposed on the top of the door opening. In the early years, they were mostly used in foreign farms or warehouses. Barn doors are often featured in American western movies and can be said to be an authentic local symbol.
What you need to know before installing a barn door
What are the advantages of barn doors?
1. Good looks and versatile style.
2. It can be disassembled, so you can finally take the door with you when you move.
3. The price is cheaper than aluminum alloy sliding doors. If you use recycled materials and DIY reprocessing (polishing, painting and installing hardware, etc.), it can be done for a few hundred yuan.
Barn Door to Wall Requirements
The hanging rail of the barn door is external, the rail is above the wall, and the door is hung, so the strength of the wall is very high.
If it is a wall made of red bricks or poured concrete, that is, a load-bearing wall (or shear wall), there is no problem in installing a barn door; if it is a non-load-bearing wall made of hollow bricks, foam bricks, light steel keel walls, etc. Walls, be safe, and say goodbye to barn doors.
What spaces are barn doors suitable for?
1. Living room
If you are tired of the tacky and old-fashioned background wall, why not try a new method, which can also prevent dust to a certain extent.
2. Bedroom
The sealing and sound insulation effects of barn doors are worse than those of ordinary doors. They are not suitable for bedroom doors that require strong privacy and sound insulation. However, they can be used in built-in cloakrooms in bedrooms.
Because the room space is limited, in order to save the 90-degree fan-shaped space where the flat door rotates, everyone has chosen the push-pull method.
A barn door would also be great for a freestanding closet.
3. Study room
Every time you walk into the study, you may feel like you are opening the door to knowledge——
4. Bathroom
If you decide to install a barn door, it is best to separate dry and wet areas in the bathroom, or keep it dry and ventilated.
5. Kitchen
Some people are worried that the cooking fumes in the kitchen will escape from the cracks in the door. In fact, it is not that serious. There is a range hood at home and a fully open kitchen exists well.
If you are worried about oil fumes infecting wooden doors, you can use wood wax oil or sealant to paint them.
Barn Door Materials
What we see most are wood barn doors. If you are pursuing a rough feel and want to retain the original wood texture, you can paint them with wood wax oil or varnish.
If you want your barn door to be delicate and neat, it is recommended that you sand it and then paint it with your favorite color paint.
Another way to present it is to apply blackboard paint on the door panel. Families with children no longer have to worry about little grinders scribbling everywhere.
In addition, there are also barn doors made of glass and metal.
Glass barn doors are more suitable for smaller homes and help maintain a sense of transparency in the room.
Mirrored barn doors not only add a movable mirror to your home, but also make the space look larger.
Metal barn doors show the bold and bold beauty of industry
Barn Door Styling, Fitting and Installation
modeling
Barn doors are also available as single or double leaves. If the door frame does not have wall space on both sides, or the door opening is small, it can be made into a single leaf, such as a cloakroom, storage room, bathroom, etc.
Hardware
Barn doors have higher requirements for hardware. The better the hardware, the smoother the opening and the lower the sound.
The required hardware mainly includes: tracks, moving pulleys, stops, swing stops, anti-falling blocks, screws, ground guides, etc.
There are two main types of hardware materials, iron and stainless steel. Iron art is the most common, with a retro tone, while stainless steel is slightly colder.
Install
When installing, the distance from the top of the door opening to the roof is usually > (16cm door pocket width), of which 16cm is the usual track width;
The distance from the bottom of the door panel to the ground should be about 1cm; the width of the door panel should be > the width of the door opening, and the width of the wall next to the door opening should be > the width of the door panel.
DIY Barn Door Guide
If you also like barn doors and plan to install one for your home, you can follow the steps below (provided that the door panels and hardware must be purchased in advance, you can go to the omnipotent Taobao, or you can visit the local building materials market).
The first step, if you want to replace an old door with a new one, make sure the walls on both sides of the door are wide enough.
In the second step, use a screwdriver or electric drill to unscrew the hinges on the old door frame and remove the old door.
Step 3: Follow the instructions of the door hardware kit to correctly install the hardware and hanging rails.
The fourth step is to paint your door panel (if you want to customize the finished door panel, please ignore the fourth and fifth steps).
Step 5: Wait for the paint to dry, then turn it over and paint the back. After both sides are dry, apply another coat if necessary.
Step 6: Install the handle and pendant to the door.
The last step is to hang the door on the track and you're done. Isn't it very simple? (Be careful! Door panels are often heavy!)
PS. When installing, pay attention to calculating the distance from the wall, floor and skirting to avoid future friction.
window
Broken bridge aluminum windows
Broken bridge aluminum windows can meet:
①Strong: aluminum alloy
②Sealing: seamless welding
③No discoloration: non-plastic
④Thermal insulation: Use thermal insulation strips to create broken bridge isolation
⑤Silent: closed process
composition
A window includes different components such as window frame, glass, hardware, and adhesive strips. What brand of window we often talk about is actually the window frame, which is the brand of the profile manufacturer. Other components are also purchased and assembled by the assembler. .
window frame
Window frame: that is, profile. Aluminum mined from aluminum ore is first melted into pure aluminum ingots, the aluminum ingots are then melted, and other metals are added to make aluminum alloy rods, which are then drawn into various profiles using a profile machine, and the profiles are then processed into window frames.
Note that other brands may recycle scrap aluminum into aluminum rods. This depends on whether the profile is smooth and beautiful.
window frame width
60 refers to the window frame profile including insulation strips that are 60mm wide, 65 refers to 65mm, and so on.
The wall thickness of 60 profiles is ≥1.4mm, and if it is less than 1.4, it does not meet the national standard; the 65 profile is generally the same as the 60 profile, except that the heat insulation strip is wider; the wall thickness of the 70 profile is 1.6mm or 1.8mm. This is how it is done when processing profiles. It is part of the industry regulations.
Mainstream brands of profiles: Feng Aluminum, Zhongwang, Shide, Conch, Heping, Asia Aluminum, Nanshan, Chinalco...
Insulation strips
Insulation strip: Broken Bridge Aluminum took a long time to work on, mainly adding a heat insulation strip. Merchants will also make a fuss about heat insulation strips. Some use ordinary PVC heat insulation strips, and some use nylon PA66 heat insulation strips.
Normally, PA66 should be used, which is resistant to high temperatures and is not afraid of expansion. A relatively simple detection method, if it is not easy to burn with a lighter, it is considered acceptable.
Glass
If it is a high-rise, floor-to-ceiling window, or a window larger than 1.5 square meters, try to use tempered glass. It has high hardness. If the glass is broken, it will turn into particles and connect together, which will not hurt people.
Now all tempered glass has the CCC mark, and in a certain corner, generally tempered glass requires an additional fee.
Nowadays, insulating glass is chosen for broken bridge aluminum windows. In order to achieve the thermal insulation effect, the hollow thickness of 12mm and above is generally selected, and the thickness of the glass on both sides should be 4 to 5mm.
The recommended double-layer hollow is 5mm 25mmA 5mm, and the three-layer hollow is recommended 5mm 9mmA 5mm 9mmA 5mm, where A represents the middle air layer, and the others represent the thickness of the glass.
If the merchant cannot do low-e coating, try not to coat it. Other coatings will affect the indoor light. After the glass is coated, you can see from the inside to the outside, but you can't see from the outside. It also protects against ultraviolet rays, which costs extra.
Hardware
When buying windows, the merchant will package the hardware. You should ask whether the hardware is domestically produced or imported. Good hardware can ensure smooth opening and closing of the window for decades. No matter how good the windows are, if the hardware is not good, it will also affect the sealing, heat insulation, and thermal insulation performance.
Hardware is generally charged separately and sold per set. Note that unscrupulous merchants will sell hardware by parts, and the hardware of windows with different opening methods will be different.
For example, the hardware for casement windows mainly consists of handles, actuators, hinges, locking points, and wind braces. This is a complete set of hardware, so don’t be fooled into buying them one by one.
The better five-gold medals are German Noto and Silkya. The genuine Noto has a rounder ROTO logo, and it feels heavier, smooth but not loose, like a machine that hasn't run away yet. It's tight, but not an obstacle. There is a copycat Noto in China, and the logo is Pinyin NUOTUO.
The authenticity of normal hardware can be checked. For example, Silkilia has an anti-counterfeiting code and production batch stamp on the hardware, so you can check the specific production process.
The anti-counterfeiting label says how to check it, and when you peel it off, you will find the anti-counterfeiting code.
What are the quotes for broken bridge aluminum windows?
The quotations generally placed on the table include:
Aluminum windows: mainly window frames, sash and ordinary glass.
Hardware: It is said that there are many fake imported ROTO hardware.
Corner columns: generally around 200 yuan/linear meter. L-shaped windows require one rod, and U-shaped windows require two.
Screen windows: Ordinary ones are usually 100 yuan/㎡, and Imeida ones are usually 150 yuan/㎡.
Excipients/add-ons that are often hidden include:
What are the pitfalls in the quotation?
① Extra fees for opening windows: For example, you are only allowed to open 3 windows in 10 square meters. Do you want to open more windows without leaving any dead space? Sorry, please add more money, more than 200 per door.
②Sealant/foam glue: If the price does not include glue, it can easily cost thousands of yuan. It is best to discuss the Shenma brand of glue in advance to avoid merchants using inferior glue.
③ Minimum area: If the single window is less than 1 square meter, the standard is 1 square meter; if the double-open window is less than 2 square meters, the standard is 2 square meters.
④Beams: If the window in the balcony wants to be lower than the clothes drying rack, it is generally necessary to add beams, which cost more than 100 per linear meter.
⑤Aluminum tube window frame/sub-frame: Want to install window covers? The hinge cannot be close to the window frame, and an aluminum tube/sub-frame needs to be added on both sides, which is more than 200 linear meters.
⑥Change color: White doesn’t look good? Sorry, please add money. Color change costs 30-50 yuan per square meter.
⑦Toughened glass: A single piece of glass exceeding 1.5 square meters generally needs to be tempered, dozens of pieces per square meter.
⑧ Hole opening: Drill the smoke pipe hole in the glass.
⑨Locator: Usually it will be given as a gift, but some unscrupulous merchants will charge money.
⑩Four-link: If it is an outward-opening window, the merchant will tell you that the resistance of the ordinary positioner is not enough to withstand strong winds, and a four-link must be installed, and the price ranges from 100-200.
⑪Coating fee: Single charge.
What to pay attention to when buying off-bridge aluminum windows
① Determine clearly the size, model, thickness, material, number of seals, and price per square meter of aluminum.
② Whether there is any loss, and whether it is less than the number of square meters, it will be calculated as an integer.
③In addition to aluminum materials and windows, what else does the cost per square meter include?
④ It is best to produce a drawing of the window size or draw a picture so that the salesperson can clearly mark which areas are free of charge.
⑤After all unit prices and fees are confirmed, calculate the total price to see how much the cost per square meter is. If it is too low, the merchant will definitely be able to find it elsewhere, and an appropriate profit will still be given.
What is the general price of broken bridge aluminum windows?
A good-quality broken-bridge aluminum window suitable for middle-class families costs about 1,000 yuan/㎡ (70 profiles, top-grade hardware, measurement, installation, and various accessories included).
Seal the balcony
Benefits of enclosed balconies
The first benefit is of course safety. Internally it can prevent naughty children from climbing and falling, and externally it can prevent thieves. In addition, it can prevent dust, rain, smog and noise. In the cold winter, the insulation effect of the enclosed balcony is absolutely excellent.
Moreover, the space potential of the balcony is huge and can be transformed into various functional areas (leisure area/planting area/laundry area/work area, etc.), which can not only expand the usable area, but also show the decoration taste.
Disadvantages of enclosed balconies
Of course, there are some disadvantages. It will block part of the lighting and reduce the opportunity for close contact with nature. Moreover, the efficiency of opening windows for ventilation is definitely not as good as that of an open balcony.
Also note that you must obtain the consent of the property owner before making any changes to the balcony. Generally, the property owner will decide whether to allow the balcony to be sealed based on the overall aesthetics of the building facade.
1. Materials for sealing the balcony
1. Profile
The main profiles include plastic steel, aluminum alloy and broken bridge aluminum. Plastic steel has average strength. Although it has steel internal support, the plastic shell is easily damaged. Aluminum alloy profiles are strong and durable, but pure aluminum alloy conducts heat quickly and affects indoor temperature control. The best profile currently used on balconies is broken bridge aluminum.
Broken bridge aluminum is a type of aluminum alloy, except that insulation material is added between two aluminum alloy profiles. According to national standards, this material should be PA66 nylon. This material is resistant to high temperatures, has a long life, and has good thermal insulation effect, but the cost is high (the thickness of the thermal insulation nylon strip must not be less than 1.4mm).
Some unscrupulous traders will use inferior PVC plastic instead. Although it can also achieve partial heat insulation function, PVC plastic is not resistant to high temperatures, has a short lifespan, and will age or even fall off over time. The easiest way to distinguish insulation materials is to burn them with fire. PVC plastic is not fire-resistant and can ignite.
In addition to playing tricks on insulation materials, some people also use low-quality aluminum. This part of aluminum is often recycled and reprocessed. High-quality aluminum has a neat, smooth cross-section, no impurities, and is rich in metal. Glossy, inferior aluminum has rough cross-section, impurities, and dull color.
2. Glass
It is recommended that all balcony glass be tempered glass. Safety comes first. Qualified tempered glass will have a "CCC" mark on the corners of the glass. Qualified tempered glass will not produce sharp fragments even if it is broken.
However, tempered glass still has a certain self-explosion rate, which is very low, generally around 3‰. The reason is that some of the small nickel sulfide crystals inside the glass have different expansion coefficients from the glass, and the uneven stress after heating causes self-explosion. Therefore, it is best to choose laminated tempered glass, that is, a layer of PVB film is sandwiched between two layers of glass. Even if one side of the glass is damaged, the film will firmly adhere the two sides of the glass together and still maintain the integrity, so as not to cause high altitude damage. Falling objects.
Laminated glass is an upgraded product. In addition, insulating glass is more widely used. For example, 5 9 5 insulating glass means that the thickness of the tempered glass on both sides is 5mm, the thickness of the hollow is 9mm, 5 12 5 and so on. .
3. Hardware and glue
Window hardware includes hinges, handles, wind braces, locks, etc. The hardware from Noto, Germany, is better.
The glue used for installation includes foam glue and glass glue. The main function of foam glue is to fix the window frame after expansion, and the main function of glass glue is to seal and adhere. These two glues are indispensable. Merchants may use acid glass glue. Acid glue has a peculiar smell and is not environmentally friendly. It is best to choose neutral glue.
4. Sealing strip
The quality of the sealing strip will seriously affect the sealing degree of the window, and the sealing effects of different qualities vary greatly. When choosing a sealing strip, choose one that is tough and elastic. Do not choose one that is particularly hard, as it will easily break and fail at low temperatures.
5. Anti-theft network
If you install an anti-theft net, be sure to choose one with an escape hatch. The escape hatch can be locked internally. If it is normally locked, prepare a few extra keys. The location of the keys must be known to everyone in the family. Since the lock of the escape hatch is easy to rust if it is not opened frequently, the lock of the escape hatch must be maintained regularly.
2. How to seal different types of balconies
1. Understand the load-bearing structure of the balcony
Before sealing the balcony, you must understand the load-bearing structure of the balcony. Old-fashioned houses often have a door-window structure between the room and the balcony. The door and window can be removed, but the half wall under the window is generally not allowed to be removed. This half wall is a counterweight wall. If it is removed, the balcony will sink and break. possible.
2. Concave balcony and convex balcony
The concave balcony has columns and has a strong load-bearing capacity; the structure of the convex balcony is generally a pressure beam type or a cantilever beam type. The load-bearing capacity of these two structures is not very good. You cannot put too many things on the balcony. Like some properties, It is stipulated that the balcony cannot be used as a storage room.
If it is a concave balcony, then the style of your balcony sealing is a straight balcony, and you only need to seal one side; if your balcony is a convex balcony, then you need to seal three sides. At this time, you need to install pillars, which are also called pillars. The corner column supports and fixes the window frame, and can also perfectly transition through 90° corners.
3. Outside half wall
If there is a half wall on the outside of the balcony, windows can be installed above the half wall and the wall stacks converted into window sills. If you want to demolish half of the wall, it is OK from a structural point of view, but you need the consent of the property owner because it involves the overall aesthetics of the exterior walls of the residential buildings.
Customized windows have very high requirements for measurement accuracy, and most half walls are not absolutely horizontal and vertical, so multiple measurements of the same plane are required and the minimum value is taken to determine the final window size. (If the window is made slightly smaller, you can find a way to fill it, but if it is made larger, it won’t fit in...)
What if there is no half wall on the outside and you want to build a new wall? Absolutely not allowed. You cannot just build a wall on the balcony, even a light wall.
4. Outside guardrail
If there is no balcony with half walls and only metal guardrails, the window frames must be fixed entirely by columns and beams, and the entire plane is covered with windows. When measuring, you should also measure multiple times to get the minimum value. For safety reasons, it is best to add cross beams when the height of a single glass window reaches 1.2m, so most windows are of upper and lower sections.
For safety reasons, the lower metal guardrail must be retained. If it is to be removed, the property owner must be notified in advance.
3. Specific steps for sealing a balcony
1. Determine the location
In order to expand the balcony area as much as possible, some people will move the windows as far out as possible. Although part of the balcony area is expanded, it also brings a problem -
A narrow groove is usually opened at the top of the balcony near the edge. This groove can ensure that rainwater from the side does not flow further inward. If your window is always leaning outwards, this groove may be pressed, which will increase the chance of water entering the window and greatly increase the chance of water seepage.
2. Build pillars
Install columns on the ground or on the half wall of the balcony. Note that the position of the columns should not be too far outside. The principle is the same as above. If it is too far outside, the chance of contact with rainwater will increase, and the chance of water seepage will increase, which is not conducive to sealing.
The columns must be absolutely vertical, and the beams must be absolutely horizontal. Otherwise, the sealing of the window will be seriously affected, and the window may even fail to be installed.
Use expansion screws to fix the columns. Note that the length of the expansion screws entering the wall must not be less than 12mm to ensure that the columns are absolutely firm and stable.
3. Install window frames
Before installing the window frame, make sure there is no dust in the hole. If there is dust, it may peel after a long time after the glue is applied. After cleaning the dust, fix the window frame inside the window hole with wooden wedges or plastic blocks. The gap between the window frame and the hole must be within 2cm.
Expansion screws are used to fix the window frame. Generally, one expansion screw is required every 60cm. Some people will save trouble and drill fewer holes, resulting in an insufficiently strong installation.
After initial fixation, drive foam glue between the window frame and the opening for sealing. The foam glue will overflow. This is normal. Wait until the foam glue is completely dry, and then use a wallpaper knife to scrape off the excess foam glue. Remove it and seal it with glass glue.
Some people only deal with the excess foam on one side of the room, and leave it alone on the outside where the owner is not paying attention. The excess foam outside the window will easily deteriorate and fall off after a long time, seriously affecting the sealing and aesthetics of the window. .
4. Install window sash and glass
After the window frame is fixed, the window sash can be installed. When applying glue between the window frame and the glass, it is best to stick tape or masking paper on the glass first, so that the finished glue edge will be neater.
4. Other projects
1. Ground
Let’s talk about second-hand houses first, especially the old buildings of the last century. Generally, the balcony floor is lower than the indoor floor. Sealing the balcony may require ground backfilling. If the thickness of the backfill required is too large, it will involve the load-bearing problem of the balcony - the weight of cement mortar. It is likely to compromise the overall structural strength of the balcony.
At this time, the backfill material should be lighter weight ceramsite. If the ceramsite is overweight, consider reducing the backfill thickness or not backfilling.
Nowadays, most new houses no longer have the problem of backfilling. In order to expand the indoor area, some owners of small houses choose not to make door stones, and the floors are laid straight to the balcony.
2. Waterproof
If the balcony is used as a laundry area, and you will wash clothes, dry clothes, or perform other water-related activities on the balcony in the future, then the balcony floor will need to be waterproofed again. If it is only used as a leisure area, the waterproofing of the original rough house is enough.
3. Get into the water
Usually the balcony only has rainwater pipes but no sewer pipes, and you cannot discharge the sewage from the washing machine directly into the rainwater pipes, because the outlet of the rainwater pipes is usually connected near the lawn of the community.
So you have to connect a sewer pipe to the kitchen or bathroom yourself (usually connected to the sewer pipe in the kitchen, the sewer pipe in the bathroom may cause bad smell), but the sewer pipe has a slope requirement, and the distance between the balcony and the kitchen or bathroom is fine. If the distance is too far and the pipe is too long, the ground may be raised to create a slope.
4. Customized cabinets
Customize the cabinets according to the size of the balcony and home appliances. You can put the washing machine and dryer inside the cabinet, and the overall appearance will be beautiful.
If the height of the washing machine is suitable, the easiest way is to extend the wash basin countertop and place the washing machine directly under the countertop. Some washing machines are higher, but considering the comfort of use, the wash basin should be made lower, and the high and low countertops can be customized.
Some designs will raise the entire washing machine in order to use the washing machine without bending, resulting in a larger gap between the high and low countertops.
interior window
Installing indoor windows can improve light and ventilation.
1. Applicable area of indoor windows
①Entrance, long and narrow corridor
The entrance is often an area with weak lighting in the home. The existence of indoor windows can introduce light from the living room, dining room, kitchen and other spaces to break the darkness. You can feel the comfortable home atmosphere as soon as you enter the door.
②Between study room and living room
Since the privacy requirements of the study are weak (not as high as those of the bedroom), if there is a window between the study and the living room, especially if the study is very narrow (the apartment design of new domestic real estate projects often has the disadvantage of too small a room), add one A light-transmitting window can greatly enhance the living experience.
You can even be bolder and add windows to the partition wall. The design of the partition wall without the top is more transparent and breathable, and the wooden windows are also more spiritual.
③Between kitchen and dining room
Kitchen interior windows are the best way to reconcile open kitchens and closed kitchens. They not only prevent the erosion of oil smoke, but also enhance the penetration of light. It is best to open the window above the cabinet, just in the line of sight when operating, making it easier for family members to talk in the dining room.
If the window sill is widened, it can be made into a small bar to create a relaxed dining atmosphere, especially suitable for small apartments that cannot place a dining table.
④Between bedroom and living room
If the lighting in the bedroom is not good enough, opening an indoor window can make the bedroom more transparent. In order to ensure the privacy of the bedroom, curtains, blinds or frosted glass can be installed.
In apartments without a study room, sometimes the desk is placed in a corner of the bedroom and an indoor window is opened to expand the field of view and make reading and working without depression.
2. Style characteristics of indoor windows
Indoor windows are a decorative technique that is not limited by style. Whatever decoration style you like can be realized in terms of material and design.
①Nordic style & simple style
The interior windows with wooden frames painted white, are decorated in a versatile and simple style, whether Nordic, modern, simple, or modern American. Because the visual impact of white is not strong, it weakens the existence of the window frame. People see more of the scene through the window rather than the window itself, and the depth of the space is suddenly enhanced.
②Modern style & industrial style
Interior windows with black metal frames are also very common. Contrary to white, black has a stronger sense of presence and emphasizes the modern feel of horizontal and vertical directions.
The thinner the window frame, the more transparent the line of sight. On the contrary, the thicker the lines of the window frame, the stronger the presence of the window. If the window area is large and there will be many divisions on the glass, it is recommended to use thin frames, which are concise and elegant; thick frames are more suitable for smaller windows without too many divisions.
③Japanese style
As mentioned before, indoor windows are more common in Japanese homes. Indeed, wooden windows in solid color give people a rustic and elegant feeling, which is in line with Japanese aesthetics.
For ventilation, most Japanese-style wooden windows will be opened in a top-hung manner, which does not take up space, and as long as one or two can be opened, a relaxing mood will emerge.
3. Installation of indoor windows
①Appearance
Indoor windows can improve the structure while minimizing damage to the structure. It can be said that it kills two birds with one stone.
Do not make indoor windows too large just because you only consider lighting. It is best to control the window area to 1/3~2/3 of the entire wall. First, consider the blocking and exposure of space, second, sound insulation issues, and third, sometimes There are also load-bearing wall restrictions.
Window frames are mostly made of aluminum alloy, which is lightweight (much lighter than wrought iron). It comes in a variety of colors and has good waterproof properties. It is also suitable for kitchens. You can find a door and window shop in the building materials market to customize it.
A few window frames are made of wood, mostly cost-effective pine, and higher-end oak, usually made on-site by carpenters.
②Installation steps
To build an indoor window, the first step is usually to smash the wall (make sure it is a non-load-bearing wall) and remove the window opening; another situation is to build a new light brick wall and leave the window opening. In this case, It is necessary to add functional space, such as adding a study room or a small bedroom to a large open space.
Before installing the window, clean the base of the opening, then drill holes at the fixed points and embed expansion bolts.
When installing, install the window frame first and then the window. It is best to keep an eye on the whole process to avoid installing it crookedly, which will make rework difficult. If installed incorrectly, the window may become increasingly crooked after a period of use. The inspection method is very simple. Find a line and measure the distance between the two diagonals of the window frame. If the distance is the same, it is positive.
After adjusting the position of the window frame, add foam to fill the gap between the window frame and the wall. The styrofoam should be applied enough so that no gaps are left. It usually takes 2 to 3 hours for the styrofoam to cure, and it will take longer in winter. Cut off the excess styrofoam after curing.
The last step is to install the glass. Even though it is an indoor window, to be on the safe side, the inside and outside of the glass should be covered with waterproof glue. It needs to be done cleanly and neatly, otherwise it will look ugly. The waterproof glue will dry after 12 hours, so try to avoid dusty construction and cleaning of newly installed windows, which will stain the glue.
