MindMap Gallery Classification and usage of physical disinfection and sterilization methods
In nursing studies, the classification and application of physical disinfection and sterilization methods, such as thermal disinfection and sterilization, use heat to destroy the proteins, nucleic acids, cell walls, and cell membranes of microorganisms, leading to death. The knowledge points in this picture are detailed and clearly classified, which is worth learning.

Physical disinfection and sterilization method
Thermal disinfection and sterilization
Use heat to destroy the proteins, nucleic acids, cell walls, and cell membranes of microorganisms, leading to death.
Dry heat method: high temperature, long time
Usage: Contaminated items with no retention value, contaminated paper, dressings infected by tetanus, gas gangrene, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, etc., paper contaminated by sputum of tuberculosis patients. Metal instruments and enamel items.
Method: Bake metal instruments on a flame for 20 seconds, and pour a small amount of 95% ethanol into enamel containers.
Dry baking method: air convection heat conduction
Usage: oil, powder, glassware, metal products, ceramic products.
Method: Disinfection: box temperature 120-140℃, time 10-20 minutes. Sterilization: box temperature 150°C, time 2.5 hours; box temperature 160°C, time 2 hours; box temperature 170°C, time 1 hour; box temperature 180°C, time 30 minutes.
Boiling disinfection method (moist heat method): low temperature, short time
Usage: Used for sterilizing moisture-resistant and high-temperature resistant enamel, metal, glass, rubber and other items. It cannot be used for sterilizing surgical instruments.
Method: Start timing when water boils. Bacterial propagules can be killed in 5-10 minutes, and most bacterial spores can be killed in 15 minutes. Add sodium bicarbonate to the water to prepare a solution with a concentration of 1%-2%. The boiling point can reach 105℃ can increase the sterilization effect and can also remove dirt and prevent rust.
Pressure steam sterilization (moist heat method): the most widespread and most reliable first sterilization method
Usage: Used for the sterilization of high temperature, high pressure and moisture resistant items, such as instruments, dressings, enamel, glass, certain rubber medicines, solution bacterial culture media, etc.
Applicable method: pressure reaches 103-137kPa, temperature reaches 121-126°C, and is maintained for 20-30 minutes to achieve sterilization effect.
Note: the sterilization bag should not be too large or too tight; place cloth items on top of metal or enamel items
Sterilization effect detection: physical monitoring method: mercury column, chemical monitoring method: color of chemical indicator card, biological monitoring method: the most reliable monitoring method.
Light disinfection method (also called radiation disinfection)
The bactericidal effect of ultraviolet light causes photolysis and denaturation of bacterial proteins, leading to bacterial death.
Solar exposure method: Use the heat, dryness and ultraviolet effects of sunlight to sterilize
Usage: mattresses, wool cushions, books, clothes, etc.
Method: Expose to the sun for 6 hours
Ozone sterilization lamp: uses the powerful oxidation effect of ozone for sterilization
Usage: Disinfection of air, hospital sewage, medical water, and surfaces of objects
Method: Close doors and windows, leave the room, and disinfect the surfaces of items.
Microwave disinfection and sterilization method
Cannot be used to sterilize metal items
Filtration sterilization
Used in: operating rooms, burn wards, organ transplant wards, etc.
Method: biological cleaning technology, three-stage air filter, and reasonable air flow method.
