The Rise and Spread of Buddhism

Buddhism originated in ancient India in the 6th century BCE, founded by Siddhartha Gautama (also known as Shakyamuni). The core teachings of Buddhism are the Four Noble Truths and the Eightfold Path, aimed at guiding individuals to overcome suffering and attain nirvana. The Buddhist sangha, a community of monks and nuns, played a crucial role in the spread of Buddhism through their practice and propagation of Buddhist teachings. Additionally, Buddhism emphasizes the importance of the Three Jewels—Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha—which are considered the foundation of faith and practice. As Buddhism spread, it gradually reached other parts of Asia, such as China, Japan, Korea, and Southeast Asia, developing unique Buddhist cultures in each region.
