The antibacterial effect of neutrophils

Regarding the antibacterial effect of neutrophils, it mainly includes mechanisms of bacterial killing (such as phagocytosis and ingestion of bacteria, production of reactive oxygen species, and release of lytic enzymes); antibacterial substances produced by neutrophils (such as myeloperoxidase, NADPH oxidase, lactoferrin, and lysozyme); and neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) formation (such as the release of chromatin and granular proteins to trap and kill bacteria, as well as NETosis, which is programmed cell death of neutrophils).
