Phagocytosis function of monocytes/macrophages

Monocytes/macrophages exhibit microbicidal mechanisms through phagocytosis, producing reactive oxygen species (ROS) and lytic enzymes to kill ingested microorganisms. They also present antigens on their surface to activate T-cells, initiating adaptive immunity. Monocytes/macrophages regulate the immune response by releasing cytokines to modulate inflammation and recruit other immune cells.
