MindMap Gallery The structure and contraction mechanism of muscle cells
Muscle cells are primarily composed of myofibrils, which contain myosin and actin, the basis for muscle contraction. The sarcomere is the basic contractile unit on myofibrils, consisting of Z-lines, A-bands, and I-bands. When muscle contraction is needed, calcium ions are released from the sarcoplasmic reticulum and bind to troponin, triggering the sliding between myosin and actin, thereby achieving muscle contraction. This process requires ATP to provide energy, ensuring sustained and powerful muscle contraction.
