The structure and function of nerve cells

Neurons consist of a soma, dendrites, axons, and synapses. The soma is the metabolic and nutritional center, containing the nucleus and abundant cytoplasm. Dendrites are responsible for receiving signals from other neurons and transmitting them to the soma for processing. Axons, on the other hand, transmit the processed signals to other neurons or effectors, such as muscles or glands. Synapses are structures that transmit information between neurons, including chemical synapses and electrical synapses, ensuring accurate transmission of neural signals between neurons.
