MindMap Gallery Introduction to Silver Nitrate
Silver nitrate is a colorless transparent crystal that is soluble in water. It is chemically unstable and decomposes easily upon exposure to light, reacting with halogens to produce silver halide precipitates. Silver nitrate is used as a sensitizer in photographic materials, an important raw material for silver plating, and as an effective bactericide. Its preparation method involves reacting nitric acid with silver. However, silver nitrate is strongly oxidizing and should be handled with care to avoid contact with organics and reducing agents to prevent hazards.
