The structure and properties of atoms

The structure of an atom consists of a nucleus and an electron cloud. The nucleus, composed of protons and neutrons, contains almost all the mass of the atom. Electrons move around the nucleus, forming an electron cloud that determines the chemical properties of the atom. The arrangement of electrons follows the Pauli exclusion principle and the principle of minimum energy, forming stable electron configurations. Isotopes are atoms with the same number of protons but different numbers of neutrons, sharing the same chemical properties but differing in physical properties. Additionally, the size of the electron cloud determines the atomic radius, which influences the interactions between atoms and the properties of compounds.
