MATERIAL

Any substance which is used to make some object or thing. For example - Paper, pencil, rubber, chalk, bed clothes etc.

CLASSIFICATION OF MATERIAL

Classification or grouping is a way of arranging the objects int groups based on their properties.

DIFFERENT PROPERTIES OF MATERIALS

APPEARANCE

LUSTROUS MATERIAL-Materials that have natural shiny surface. For eg-Gold, Silver, Copper etc. NON LUSTROUS MATERIAL-Materials that do not have natural shiny surfaces or have dull surfaces. For eg-Wood, Paper, Juter etc.

HARDNESS OR SOFTNESS

SOFT MATERIAL-Materials that can be easily compressed or cut. For eg- Soft toy, Bread, Rubber etc. HARD MATERIAL-Materials that canno be compressed or cut easily. For eg- Wood, Iron, Glass etc.

TRANSPARENCY

TRANSPARENT MATERIALS-Marerials that allow light to pass through them fully and things are easily visible. For eg-Glass, Water, Air etc. TRANSLUCENT MATERIALS-Materials that allow less light to pass through them and things are not clearly visible. For eg-Butter paper, Plastic, Frosted Glass etc. OPAQUE MATERIALS-Materials that do not allow light to pass through them and nothing can be seen. For eg-Clay, wood, cardboard etc.

SOLUBILITY

SOLUBLE SUBSTANCE-Substances that fully dissolve in water. For eg- Salt, Sugar etc. INSOLUBLE SUBSTANCE-Substance that do not dissolve in water. For eg- Sand, Oil etc.

MASS

The quantity which tells whether an object is heavy or light. Mass is measured in Kilogram (KG).

SPACE

The region or expanse that can be occupied by a substance.

CAPACITY

The amount of a substance that a container can hold.

VOLUME

The space occupied by a substance.

MATTER

Anything which occupies space or has mass.

Matter has three states: Solid, Liquid and Gas

ADVANTAGES OF CLASSIFICATION

Grouping or classification helps in keeping things arranged. Grouping helps in easy access of items. Grouping saves times and effort. Grouping makes it asy to compare items.
