Frictions

- Static friction

- friction between two or more solidobjects that are not moving relative toeach other

- ex) a car wheel moving on a road

- Dynamic friction

- dynamic friction occurs when two objects aremoving relative to each other and rubtogether

- ex ) sled on the ground

Centripetal force

- A force that makes a bodyfollow a curved path

- centripetal force = mass x velocity^2 / radius

- Circular motion

- the force keeping objects moving with a circularpath(orbit) acts towards the centre of the circle of motion.IF the force stops, the object will continue in a straightline.

Terminal velocity

- the drag force equals the driving force

- Newton's third law states that for every actionforce there is an equal (in size) and opposite (indirection) reaction force

- Reaction force

- the force that acts in theopposite direction to an actionforce

- Action force

- the force which acts on thebody due to some externaleffort

Acceleration of Free Fall

- A free falling object is an object that'sfalling under the sole influence of gravity.

- Chracteristics of free-falling objects

- Do not encounter air resistance

- All accelerate downwards at arate of 9.8m/s/s

- G (gravity) is always constant

- F = mg = ma

- Speed

- speed = distance / time

- how fast an object is moving

- scalar quantity(described bymagnitude alone)

- Velocity

- velocity = displacement / time

- the rate at which an objectchanges its position

- vector quantity(described byboth a magnitude and adirection)

- final velocity - initial velocity / time

- the rate at which the velocity ofa body changes with time
