Brutus tries to convince his audience(the general public)why he had good and noble reasons to kill Ceasar. He claims he had to kill Ceasar because he was too ambitious and would end up enslaving the romans
Pathos, Logos and Ethos in Brutu's speech
Pathos(appeal to emotion)
Brutus appeals to the audience's patriotism by saying he loved Ceasar but loved Rome more. Saying this he makes the audience feel that he puts his loyalty for the country above his friendship with Ceasar
Brutus also makes the audience feel loved, grateful and that he cares about them by saying he was willing to kill himself for the sake of Rome
Brutu's asks the audience, "Would you rather that Ceasar be alive and you be slaves?" He gives this as proof that he was right to kill Ceasar, he tells his audience that if Ceasar had lived he would have enslaved every Roman citizen by becoming a dictator
Ethos(Credibility/Character)
He spoke in prose which was the everyday language in which the common people spoke in. By speaking like this Brutus says, "I am one of you". Brutus implores the people to listen to him since he is a man of repute and honour. He uses ethos to say, 'believe me I am a good person, I am one of you'.
