Introduction to sodium silicate

Sodium silicate (Na₂SiO₃) is a colorless or slightly yellowish transparent or translucent viscous liquid widely used in construction, textile, and paper industries. As an adhesive, it exhibits strong bonding strength and water resistance. In detergents, it serves as a water softener. Additionally, it is a crucial fireproof material. Na₂SiO₃ is alkaline with good hydrolysis reaction characteristics, typically prepared through the reaction of quartz sand with caustic soda. Caution should be exercised regarding its corrosiveness and flammability, avoiding contact with combustibles or acids.
