On November 19.2017. I started my week on a workshop in language proficiency in the training centre and it covered some important points in the four skills.
In the first day, I like how we identify the learning style and the characteristic in learning situations. I found out that the most suitable learning style is visual and I am holistic learner.
In the second day, I decided to acquire idioms as much as possible in the mean time because that will improve my own language proficiency and I will apply this method in the school with some activities such as Opinion line and gap filling.
In the third day, really glad to know this method in teaching. It is called FUMP (Form, Use, Meaning, Pronunciation). When we teach new vocabulary, grammar, or functions, we need to help our students with four important aspects of this new language: form, use, meaning, and pronunciation. In addition, I was interested in the running dictation activity because is a good way to get the students out of their seats and move around and make them more involving on the lesson.
In the fourth day, I enjoyed using jigsaw strategy in reading. This is an approach to reading that involves students in speaking and summarising skills. It is very useful when working with short authentic texts such as newspaper articles. We may tell people about a news article we have read, so this is a classroom activity that is fairly authentic.
In the fifth day,I used a program called padlet. It is interesting and will help me in teaching for example Ask students what they remember from the previous day’s lesson .Also, create a story and ask students where it should go next. Students can type their ideas into the Padlet. Take student ideas and continue story.
All in all, this week was amazing. It opens my mind to very effective points in my field, which will have a great impact on student interaction and performance.
