Production of a gas can be measured using a gas syringe

If one or more of the reactants is a solid, then the more finely powdered the solid is, the greater the rate of reaction

The mixed powders are then in greater contact with each other and are more likely to react

When a solid is being reacted with a liquid/solution, the greater the surface area, the more the solid that will be exposed to the liquid
