Erik Erickson

Psychosocial development theory proposed by Erik Erickson

Consists of eight stages that individuals go through across their lifetime

Each stage represents a specific conflict or crisis that must be resolved

Successful resolution of conflicts leads to healthy personality development

Failure to resolve conflicts can result in emotional and psychological problems

Stages include infancy, early childhood, preschool, school age, adolescence, young adulthood, middle adulthood, and late adulthood

Gordon Allport

Trait theory developed by Gordon Allport

Focused on identifying and categorizing individual traits

Traits are stable and enduring characteristics that influence behavior

Traits can be organized into three levels of traits: cardinal traits, central traits, and secondary traits

Cardinal traits are dominant and pervasive traits that shape a person's behavior

Central traits are general traits that influence behavior in various situations

Secondary traits are specific traits that only influence behavior in certain situations

Believed that traits could be used to predict behavior in different situations

Raymond Cattell

Factor analysis approach proposed by Raymond Cattell

Identified 16 personality factors known as the 16PF (16 Personality Factors)

These factors represent the basic dimensions of personality

Examples of factors include extraversion, emotional stability, assertiveness, and openness to experience

Each factor can be measured on a continuum, with individuals varying in the degree to which they possess each trait

Viewed personality as a result of both inherited and environmental factors

Believed that the combination of these factors determines an individual's unique personality profile
