Reflection: Comparing the athletes of the Ancient Olympic Games to those of today is fascinating to me because I also admire Olympic champions. Knowing that the original athletes were deeply religious and that the festival was a religious event makes me sad that it has lost its spiritual aspect. In the Modern Olympic Games, there's an effort to remain religiously neutral, even advising athletes not to discuss religion on camera. However, the similarities between the two eras are striking; the honor, fame, and respect that top athletes receive are well-deserved. These athletes train tirelessly for four years leading up to the Games, and their dedication should be celebrated. I have immense respect for modern-day athletes who face a much larger pool of competitors than those in ancient times. If I were in Ancient Greece, as a woman, I wouldn't appreciate the games as much; I might even resent them due to being excluded from both participating and spectating. This is one area where modern-day Olympics have made significant progress. My favorite aspect of the Games is how, both then and now, they serve as a unifying event where people come together for entertainment.
