The Berlin Wall
The Berlin Wall was built to prevent East German citizens from fleeing to West Germany, thereby maintaining the socialist regime. After World War II, Germany was divided, and East Germany was founded in 1949, followed by the construction of the Berlin Wall in 1961. The fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989 not only physically broke the division but also symbolized the end of the Cold War and the reunification of Germany.
