pre Socrates the milesians the Eliatics

The Milesians and Eleatics represent two major currents in pre-Socratic philosophy. The Milesians (Thales, Anaximander, Anaximenes) sought a single material principle (water, the boundless, air) to explain nature, pioneering natural philosophy. The Eleatics (Parmenides) emphasized the eternal, unchanging nature of being, distinguishing between the "way of truth" and "way of opinion." Empedocles synthesized these ideas with his four-element theory (earth, air, fire, water) and forces of Love/Strife. These early thinkers laid crucial foundations for Western philosophical and scientific traditions.
