What effects of war?

Maybe you have been personally effected by war, or know of someone who has. This talk has the goal of providing comfort and hope for these ones.

Indirect effects of war, rising costs, food. Or a fear for the future? Comfort and hope can also be found for you. How? by means of the Bible, God's word.

people everywhere long for peace, but war and violence have been a constant feature of human history. Yes - as Ec 8:9 so rightly states, "man has dominated man to his harm"

Even organizations created to bring peace have failed. The United Nations established some 80 years ago with the goal to end war, uphold fundamental human rights and promote justice and international law has failed. This year on the 16th of June the UN's human rights chief Volker Turk said "“We are on an indefensible path of escalating conflict and open disregard for international human rights and humanitarian law,”

So rather than a decrease in conflicts the UN admits there is an increase, an increase despite it being completely unacceptable. So the question we can ask is. Is it even possible to achieve peace?

The title is not asking can there be an end to war, but rather it's a statement. There will be an end to war. But how will it come about?

By means of the bible, we will discuss reasons why humans have failed and the solution that is needed to bring peace. This solution will give us comfort and hope now and for the future.

Ps 37:10, 11 Jehovah God loves peace and has promised to bring it about permanently. How? By God's Kingdom, or government. Here are 3 reasons why God's kingdom will bring peace.

Human leaders will be replaced by a perfect leader. 1 of the 3 reasons why we don't have peace is because we currently have imperfect human leaders. This will be solved by having a perfect leader.

The second issue why humans have failed to end war is because of imperfection. But under this new kingdom Humans will be raised to perfection - Image 1

But could things return the way they are today? earlier we explained how Satan is in control on this world and that is one of the reason we do can not end war today. In this new kingdom what happens to Satan?

Do we have to wait until God's kingdom rules on earth to enjoy peace? No, The individuals quoted at the start have found peace. But how? by applying bible principles in their life.

One of the principles is they refuse to learn war anymore Micah 4:2,3

How do we "learn war anymore"? is it as easy as not participating in wars? No, we need to work at overcoming racial, tribal & national hatred - Image 2

Can this be done, especially if we happen to live in a atmosphere of such hatred? Relate experience - "Can love conquer hatred" The bible changes lives.

Soon God's Kingdom will bring about global peace, we have just discussed 3 ways how this kingdom will suceed. He will appoint a perfect ruler, Jesus to rule mankind. During his rule mankind will return to perfection we will no longer be greedy, selfish or have hatred for others. And Satan the current "ruler" of this world will be removed and destroyed so he will no longer affect mankind. But how do we know it will be soon?
